Oil on canvas depicting an Alaskan scene. In the foreground is a pier with four small buildings and one figure. To the left of the pier is a mountain slope with trees that rise sharply upwards into the upper third of the composition. A large lake or river extends from the lower right foregrounds in the middle ground. There is a small fishing boat in the middle ground slightly right of center. The background is dominated by two large snow-capped mountains and sky. The painting is signed in the lower left corner in red violet paint "Byrum". The painting is framed in a wooden moulding painted gold. A brass plaque at the bottom center of frame reads "SKAGWAY, ALASKA; Ruthven Holmes Byrum; Memorial Purchase, 1958; Anderson Civic Art Association". The verso of the canvas reads "All Reproduction Rights Reserved by the Artist --Ruthven H Byrum Anderson, Ind." On the stretchers "Skagway Alaska $350.00".
