In the lower left corner is a yellow/blue/gray rectangular box-like form. In the background behind the vase is a large rectangular form like a table top. A pattern of X's is fairly faint and fairly evenly distributed over the surface of this rectangle. In the center of the rectangle there appears to be some kind of organic nondescript shape which appears to cast a shadow to the left. In the distant background the colors are darker and more subdued and the forms are indistinguishable. The work is signed, numbered and titled from the lower left to the lower right reading, "Tableware 3/19 James D. Butler 1978." There are watermarks in the lower left and lower right corners.
