Sculpture
This metal sculpture is made of two irregular rectangular adjacent pieces that are poly-chromed lime green in color. The vertical planes of both the pieces are completely flat. The top plane is sloping in a gentle convex shape that plays out on the next segment's top horizontal plane. The sculptor intended the sculpture to have approx. 1" space between the two pieces to create a gap of negative space. This negative space is uniform because of the precise construction of the segments. On top of one of the pieces, a curved metal fence has been copper plated. The fence is Parallel to the negative space created by the two pieces, within 1" to that edge, and extends past the vertical planes on rectangular 'grass.' Each segment of 'grass' is lifted off the ground with four feet that are approx. 1/2" tall. The bottom horizontal edge on both pieces is level with the ground and gives the entire piece more shadows. This piece was Best of Show Purchase Award for the 1st "Figures of Speech" Midwest Competitive Exhibition of 2012. This piece plays off the figure of speech, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence."
