Ceiling of the Paris Opera
Print
The image is a circus-like illustration, ostensibly of the ceiling of the Paris Opera. The colors are greens, oranges, yellows, and reds. The entire surface of the work is peopled by an assortment of human-esque figures in various performance stances. Some appear to be dancing, especially those in the center. The figures appear to be set in a color field of loosely arranged, thin washes of greens, yellows, reds, and oranges. In the upper left corner is a curvilinear form that begins one-third of the way down the left side of the picture and extends curving up to a point midway across the top of the picture plane. The piece is not numbered and is unsigned. On the verso is printed, "Cet Ouvrage n'aurait pu etre realise sans la precieuse collaboration de Madame Marc Chagall a qui nous adressons nos plus vifs remciements."
